Cheza (a Swahili word meaning to dance and to play) is an Ottawa, Ontario-based group that blends African beat with rock and jazz influences. They perform traditional African music as well as original music that has an "irresistible dance beat" but contains some serious human-rights issues. Cheza has two recordings, an independent release in 1994 and a 1996 self titled CD.The group also worked on the 1994 compilation disk for Rediscovery International and has performed on Rogers Cable and CBC.
